Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

-The National Assembly (NA) on October 25 afternoon adopted a resolution confirming the results of the vote of confidence on the persons holding the positions it elected or approved.
The resolution won support from 470 out of 472 votes, or 95.14%.
NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the vote of confidence, part of the ongoing sixth session of the 15th NA, was held in a strict, democratic, objective, transparent, and serious manner in line with Resolution No. 96/2023/QH15 on the collection and casting of votes of confidence on persons holding positions elected or approved by the NA and People’s Councils.Read full text

-The 15th East Sea International Conference themed “Luminate the Grey, Light Up the Green” opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 15, with more than 200 delegates attending in person while nearly 250 others participate via teleconferencing.

Elaborating on the theme of the conference, Acting President of Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam Pham Lan Dung said that the organising board hopes that participants will analyse the state of play of the East Sea (also known as South China Sea) and the region, clarify the governing rules, identify policies that enhance trust and cooperation, and highlight activities that upset the rules-based order and create tensions. Read full text

-Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), has condemned all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, saying that Vietnam is deeply concerned about the current tense situation in the Middle East, especially losses to civilians.    
Speaking at an open debate on the Middle East situation with a focus on the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement at the UN General Assembly on October 24, the Ambassador called on all sides to immediately cease fire, exercise maximum restraint, respect international humanitarian law and apply all necessary measures to protect people's lives, including ensuring the safety of and immediate release of all hostages, minimising damage to essential civilian infrastructure in line with the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2573.Read full text

- Vietnam wishes to become a new venue chosen by parties to solve international disputes in the region and the world, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), has said.
Giang made the statement on October 24 while addressing the Side Event named “Preparation of the 125th Anniversary of the Permanent Court of Arbitration: Reflections on the Timor-Leste/Australia Conciliation, five years after the first-ever UNCLOS Conciliation”, on the occasion of the UN International Law Week with the sponsorship of the Members of the Core Group – the Permanent Missions to the UN of the Philippines, Australia, Egypt, Guatemala, Hungary, Thailand, Singapore, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.Read full text

- The ninth meeting of the Vietnam-the Republic of Korea (RoK) Joint Committee on Science and Technology cooperation was held in Seoul on October 24 under the co-chair of Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat and Korean Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho.
The meeting was part of the activities to implement the action programme to realise the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries which was established during RoK President Yoon Suk Yeol’s visit to Vietnam in June.Read full text

-The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT) of Canada’s Ontario province and the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada on October 24 held a workshop to review the 5-year implementation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and to promote Canada’s trade and investment to Vietnam.
Canadian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Maninder Sidhu said that Vietnam is currently considered an important partner of Canada in ASEAN and is the leading destination for Canadian goods in the ASEAN region, with a growth rate of 7% over the past 30 years. Vietnam is also considered a gateway for Canadian companies to enter ASEAN.Read full text

-The value of Vietnam’s durian export in the first nine months of 2023 reached 1.63 billion USD, 14 times higher than the figure of same period last year, according to statistic of the General Department of Customs.
In the reviewed period, fruit and vegetable exports totalled 4.21 billion USD, a surge of 72.5% equivalent to 1.77 billion USD year on year.Read full text

-Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) on October 24 announced that it has given tentative approval for plans to import 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of primarily wind-generated electricity from Vietnam.
The latest conditional approval – given to power import projects preliminarily found to be technically and commercially viable – comes after similar authorisations for a 1 GW import plan from Cambodia and 2 GW from Indonesia earlier in the year.Read full text/.
