Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on October 4 presented UN peacekeeping orders to three officers from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security who are participating in the UN peacekeeping mission in the African country.

The honoured officers are Colonel Le Quoc Huy, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vu Viet Hung and Lieutenant Colonel Luong Thi Tra Vinh, who have shown outstanding performance in UN peacekeeping operations. Read full story

- The Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) is sending a delegation to attend the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) World Congress (FWC) 2023 in Brussels, Belgium from October 4-6.

Themed “The Changing Climate of Logistics”, this year’s FWC is scheduled to discuss the latest challenges, innovations and development in a changing global market, with focus on new trends in global logistics, as well as the education, compliance, diversity and responsibility of the logistics industry in adapting to climate change. Read full story

- The Vietnamese business community in Europe has an important role to play in promoting trade ties between Vietnam and Europe, heard the 12th European Overseas Vietnamese Business Conference in Budapest, Hungary from September 29 to October 2.

As the largest annual event of the business community in Europe, the conference drew the participation of more than 400 delegates, including leaders from Hungarian ministries, sectors, business association and trade promotion organisation; representatives from Vietnamese embassies and trade offices in Europe; overseas Vietnamese enterprises from 19 European countries, and many Vietnam national-branded firms. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has recently signed a Prime Minister decision regarding the reduction of land rental fees for 2023.

The beneficiary entities include organisations, units, businesses, households, and individuals who are directly leased land by the state according to decisions, contracts or certificates of land use rights and of ownership rights to residential houses and other assets attached to land. Read full story

- The International Day of the Girl Child 2023 will focus on promoting gender equality to reduce sex imbalance at birth, thus raising public awareness of child protection and care, according to the Ministry of Health’s General Office for Population and Family Planning.

In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about gender equality in various areas such as education, nutrition, health care, and to encourage communities to enforce policies that support the role and status of women and girls in particular. This is particularly important for families that only have girls. Read full story

- Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus hailed achievements of the Vietnamese health sector in his congratulatory video sent to the sector on October 5.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he is very proud to witness the changes in medicine and health care in Vietnam over the past decades, as since 1945, the country’s life expectancy has increased by many years, with significant reductions in preventable diseases, including the eradication of polio, as well as great strides in tackling diseases like malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis. Read full story

- The EU's effort to cut carbon emissions globally is going into high gear as the bloc's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered its transitional phase on October 1.

As of October 1, the EU's trading partners will have to report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions embedded in six carbon-intensive exports, which consist of steel, cement, aluminium, fertiliser, hydrogen, and electricity./. Read full story
