The nation has recorded considerable rises in agricultural production though coping with difficulties in the first half of the year.

This year’s Winter-Spring rice crop gave a yield of 20.3 million tones of paddy rice, equivalent to the output attained in 2011, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The flock of poultry expanded 1.17 percent, while the herd of pigs also increased by 1 percent and cows saw a rise of 9.2 percent in terms of number. These increases brought the country’s meat output to 2.62 million tonnes, up 2.3 percent against the corresponding period last year.

The reviewed period saw an output of caught and bred seafood hitting 1.3 million tonnes, representing a rise of 3.6 percent from the same time last year.

Besides satisfactory outcomes in production, exports of farm produce are challenged by decreases in demands from foreign markets.

The General Statistics Office has reported that agricultural export turnover in the first six months of this year was estimated to reach 13.5 billion USD, which showed a drop of 1.7 percent compared to the same period last year.-VNA
