Agro-forestry-fishery exports hit 4.33 bn USD

The export turnover of Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products in the first two months of this year is estimated at 4.33 billion USD, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, of the two months’ figure, 1.73 billion USD is from shipping abroad major farm produce, down 20.5 percent from the same period last year.

In February alone, total revenue is likely to hit 2.08 billion USD.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, of the two months’ figure, 1.73 billion USD is from shipping abroad major farm produce, down 20.5 percent from the same period last year.

Big falls are recorded in the export volume and value of rice, coffee and rubber.

However, the country is enjoying impressive surges in forestry and aquatic product exports, with 30.2 percent and 23.5 percent rises respectively.

It pocketed 837 million USD and 919 million USD from selling wood and wood products and aquatic products to other countries in January and February.

The US remains Vietnam’s largest importer of these products.

In the first two months of 2014, Vietnam spent an estimated 2.9 billion USD on agro-forestry-fishery imports, up 19 percent from the same period last year.

A bright outlook is forecast for the sector in 2014 due to the tax exemption for raw products and an increase in the consumption demand in foreign markets.

The ministry has set a target of earning 28.5 billion USD from agro-forestry-fishery exports this year, a year-on-year rise of 3.63 percent.-VNA
