Agro-forestry-fishery exports hit 7.6 billion USD in Q1

Hanoi (VNA) - The export value ofagricultural, forestry and aquatic products reached 7.6 billion USD in thefirst three months of 2017, a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent.

In March alone, the earnings from these productswere estimated at 2.9 billion USD, according to the Ministry of Agriculture andRural Development.

The increase was buoyed by a year-on-year surge of 13 percent inthe export value of wood and wood products in the first quarter to 1.7 billionUSD, with 649 million USD earned in March.

Aquatic product exports in the period grew by 3.6 percent from thesame period of 2016, to 1.5 billion USD, including 537 million USD in March.

Meanwhile, rice exports dropped 18.1 percent in volume and 17.3percent in value year- on-year, to 1.28 million tonnes and 566 million USD. InMarch alone, Vietnam exported 542,000 tonnes of rice for 251 million USD.

Coffee exports saw a drop of 5.4 percent in volume to 449,000tonnes, but a surge of 25.6 percent in value, reaching 1 billion USD.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, theimport value of agro-forestry-aquatic products in the first quarter wasestimated at 6.01 billion USD, up 14.3 percent year on year, including 1.96billion USD worth of products imported in March.

The value of agro-forestry-aquatic production enjoyed ayear-on-year increase of 1.98 percent in the first quarter, of which theagricultural sector up 1.41 percent, forestry 5.04 percent, and fishery 3.59percent.-VNA

Government proposes 2-pp VAT reduction on select goods and services until 2026

A 2-percentage-point reduction in the value-added tax (VAT) for goods and services will lead to a decrease in state revenue by approximately 121.74 trillion VND (over 4.69 billion USD) over the proposed period. Petrol prices up in latest adjustment

E5 RON92 petrol is now capped at 19,180 VND (0.74 USD) per litre, up 403 VND from the previous adjustment, while RON95-III petrol costs 19,594 VND per litre, up 415 VND.
