Five fishermen from central coastal Quang Ngai province, whose ships were damaged while they were fishing at sea, have received 805 million VND in aid to buy new ships, Ngo Thi Kim Ngoc, Chairwoman of the province’s Labour Federation said on May 1.

The aid is provided by the Golden Heart Fund of Lao Dong (Labour) Newspaper through a programme aiming to support fishermen in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.

Accordingly, Nguyen Duy Nam, Luc Minh Nghia and Tran Minh Giu from Pho Thanh commune, Duc Pho district, received 200 million VND each to buy new ships and continue their work.

Mai Tien from Binh Son district whose ship was burnt down at Sa Can river mouth was granted 150 million VND, while Bui Van Phai from Ly Son district whose ship’s cabin was burnt when he was fishing in Hoang Sa waters on March 20, received 55 million VND donated by the Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the Vietnam Trade Union Tourism Company.

To date, the programme “Fishing Net of Love for Hoang Sa, Truong Sa Fishermen” of Lao Dong Newspaper have granted a total amount of 2.93 billion VND for 13 fishermen in Quang Ngai province, to help them continue fishing at sea.-VNA
