Air pollution engulfs Hanoi city

Visible dense haze engulfed Hanoi throughout January 14 with the air quality index (AQI) monitored at most sensor station reaching unhealthy levels from 151 to 193 from early in the morning.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Visible dense haze engulfed Hanoi throughout January 14 with theair quality index (AQI) monitored at most sensor station reaching unhealthylevels from 151 to 193 from early in the morning.

Air qualityindex measurement systems from the General Department of Environment under theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment and independent air qualitytrackers PAMAir and AirVisual reported similar results at the veryunhealthy purple level.

VN Air showedmany places in Hanoi reaching the red-warning level for air pollution with AQIof 151-193 at 8am on January 14.

AirVisualforecasts that the air quality in Hanoi will still be polluted thisweekend. 

At 8am onJanuary 14, AQI was reported at 285, the purple level, which is very harmful tohealth. This index remained until 1pm.

PAM Airrecorded the AQI index in most areas of Hanoi was at red, purple, brown levelsat 8am on January 14. Sixteen stations showed brown level from 302 to 440. 

These stationsinclude Dong Anh town in Dong Anh district, Tran Hung Dao in Son Tay township,Phu Dong in Ba Vi district,  Le Quang Dao, Co Dong, Pam Farm-Van Con in HoaiDuc district, Hoa Lac high-tech innovation centre in Thạch That district, andsome stations in Hoan Kiem, Tay Ho, Dong Da and Thanh Xuan districts.

Air pollutants,including fine particulate matter PM2.5, were trapped near ground level,worsening the air quality in Hanoi and other northern provinces.

Residentsshould stay updated on the air quality and follow expert recommendations duringheavy air pollution, doctors said./.

Northern region to experience cold spell

The cold air is forecast to reach northeastern Vietnam from the evening and night of October 4 before spreading to other parts of the north and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue. Winds will shift to the northeast at levels 2-3 inland and levels 3-4 along coastal areas.

Floods affect over 16,000 homes, nearly 25,000ha of crops

The floods submerged and damaged 22,499ha of rice, crops and vegetables, along with 2,172ha of other crops. A further 1,175.62ha of aquaculture areas were affected. Some 1,999 metres of irrigation canals were eroded or damaged, while 15 schools were flooded.

Heavy rains cause widespread damage in Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa

Prolonged heavy rains from September 13–17 have caused flooding and landslides, damaging homes, crops, roads and infrastructure in Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces, with local authorities mobilising forces for emergency response.

Ninh Binh establishes Kim Bang white-rumped langur conservation area

Covering a total area of 3,182ha, the conservation area comprises 3,016.81ha of natural forest, 64.25ha of plantation forest and 100.94ha of land without forest, with no water surface area. It is located in the Ly Thuong Kiet, Tam Chuc and Nguyen Uy wards of Ninh Binh province.
