A 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on October 23 evening, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics.

Hanoi (VNA) - A 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on October 23 evening, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics.

It occurred at 20:11 at a focal depth of about 8.1 km, with no disaster risk.

Earthquakes have been reported frequently in Kon Plong district since 2021. Director of the Institute of Geophysics Nguyen Xuan Anh stated that they are mainly induced earthquakes caused by human activities, with magnitudes not exceeding 5.0. Although there have been frequent occurrences in this area, their intensity has not reached a level that warrants a risk warning.

He advised that when an earthquake occurs, people should hold on to a door frame or crawl under a table if they are in a sturdy building. If they are outdoors, they should stay away from power lines and poles but move to an open area. If they are driving, they should try to pull over to the side of the road and stop./.
