Sydney (VNA) – A court in Sydney, Australia has sentenced Le My Truc, who swindled more than 300 Vietnamese overseas students out of 466,000 AUD (about 360,000 USD) by selling them non-existent air tickets through Facebook, to 18 months of supervision.

New South Wales State (NSW) police announced on August 9 that the Vietnamese national, under the name of Vi Tran on Facebook, committed 313 violations, and will have to undertake 32 hours of community service each month and some other obligations.

Detective Bennett Nolan from the NSW police also said the court ordered Truc to pay 100,000 AUD (75,000 USD) for her victims, adding that if the defendant cannot pay the compensation, the victims are unlikely to get back their money unless they are willing to pursue more civilian lawsuits.

In January 2016, Truc cheated hundreds of Vietnamese students in Australia who conducted transactions with Truc through Facebook and transferred money to her account to buy Vietnam Airlines tickets to Vietnam with lower prices than those announced by the airline.

However, they found that the tickets did not exist when making check-in procedures.-VNA
