Senior citizen Robert Podunavac of the US has chosen Vietnam to live out his days after over 40 years of world travel.
He said he has visited many countries in the world and loves Vietnamese people the most for their friendliness. “The land of Tam Lanh , in the central coast province of Quang Nam , is very beautiful and I has requested permission to settle there.”
Born in 1936 in Washington , Robert Podunavac used to work for an agency that makes maps of the world’s seas, so he had the chance to travel everywhere, including Asia . Before arriving in Vietnam , he had visited the Republic of Korea , Thailand , Japan , China and the Philippines .
Studying much about Vietnamese culture, religion and language, through the internet he came to Ho Chi Minh City in 2001 and integrated well into the community. He found his ‘better half’ there, marrying Lu Ha Thy Nhon and moving to Tam Lanh, Quang Nam province. He established a commercial farm and plans to supply varieties of vegetables to local farmers.
He has also actively engaged in social movements and charitable programmes, contributing millions of Vietnamese dong to build schools and public projects.
Robert Podunavac expressed his wish to contribute more to his wife’s homeland./.
