Anniversary of August Revolution marked in Geneva

Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to theUN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international organisations inGeneva held a ceremony on August 19 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the AugustRevolution (August 19).

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, head ofthe mission, recalled the great event in the Vietnamese history that gave birthto an independent country and left numerous lessons on national constructionand protection for next generations.

She said from the victory, the country has been working hardto thrive, achieving significant outcomes in all fields such as politics,socio-economy, culture, security, defence, external affairs, and Partybuilding, among others.

Mai noted that Vietnam has been pursuing a foreign policy ofindependence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development,multilateralisation and diversification of relations, and active internationalintegration and cooperation on the basis of respect for other countries’independence and territorial sovereignty, non-interference in each other’sinternal affairs and compliance with the UN Charter and other internationaltreaties of which Vietnam is a member.

The ambassador noted that Vietnam has so far establisheddiplomatic relations with 189 countries and is a member of many regional andinternational economic cooperation organisations.

Mai also took the occasion to highlight the fact thatVietnam has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council forthe 2008-2009 and 2020-2021 tenures.

This year, the country is holding the rotating Chairmanship ofthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), she said.

Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
