Another Tra Vinh cooperative sells dragon fruits to US

The Duc My cooperative in the southern province of Tra Vinh has sold the first tonne of red-flesh dragon fruits to the US market, its management board has reported.

Vu Cong Bang, Director of the Viet S Farm Produce company – an intermediary for the deal, said the Duc My – Tra Vinh branded fruits were sold at a price of 24,000 VND (1.1 USD) per kg. Another two-tonne batch is expected to reach the US this month.

The cooperative is going through procedures to gain Vietnam Good Agricultural Practice (Vietgap) certification for its exotic fruit.

Tra Vinh now has over 65ha grown with red-flesh dragon fruits, with over 30ha in Duc My district and the rest in districts of Cang Long, Chau Thanh, Cau Ke and Cau Ngang, giving an annual yield of over 1,000 tonnes.-VNA
