The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA) and its chapters have almost completed a programme to help out and present gifts to AO victims.

The VAVA Central Committee, on Feb. 10, announced it gave more than 200 million VND to 14 provincial and municipal chapters to buy Tet gifts for AO victims.

The chapter from the south eastern province of Dong Nai presented 1,200 gifts, each worth 350,000 VND, and helped 10 percent of its AO victims’ families.

It also received 279 million VND from the Bien Hoa sugar refinery to help 191 AO victims’ families in Nhon Trach, Trang Bom and Vinh Cuu districts.

Apart from Tet gifts, each worth 300,000 VND, each AO victim in the three districts also received 1 million VND in cash.

Meanwhile, the chapter in the northern mountainous province of Bac Giang earmarked nearly 500 million VND for Tet gifts to its victims.

Ten AO victims’ families in the province have received new houses, each worth 50 million VND.

Other chapters mobilised organisations and individuals to donate 100 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to victims in their area.

Chapters in Thai Binh and Dong Nai provinces and the central coast city of Da Nang are preparing for the construction of care centres for AO victims./.
