APEC 2017: Deputy PM Minh meets Japanese FM, WEF Director

– Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh heldseparate meetings with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Director of theWorld Economic Forum (WEF) Philipp Roesler in the central city of Da Nang onNovember 7 within the framework of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.

In the meetingwith the Japanese FM, the two officials expressed their delight at the fast andpractical development of the Vietnam – Japan strategic partnership over thepast years, pledging to coordinate closely together to successfully organise theactivities to mark the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam – Japandiplomatic ties in 2018.

Minh thanked theGovernment of Japan for providing urgent aid for Vietnamese people affected by floodsand erosions in the northern region in October and recent storm Damrey.

For his part,Kono said Japan considers Vietnam an important partner while implementing itsforeign policy in the region, affirming that the country will strongly supportVietnam’s development in the coming time, including the continued provision ofofficial development assistance (ODA) and cooperation in building high qualityinfrastructure projects.

The two officialsexchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern,including the East Sea-related matters, and agreed to strengthen cooperation atmultilateral forums, particularly the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC and ASEM.

Kono spokehighly of Vietnam’s efforts, initiatives and active role in hosting the APEC2017 Economic Leaders’ Week and APEC 2017 Year, reiterating that Japan willwork closely with Vietnam to ensure the success of the week, thus enhancing therole and position of APEC for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.

At the receptionfor WEF Director Philipp Roesler, Minh highly appreciated the support of the WEFand the director’s attendance at the Vietnam Business Summit and relatedmeetings of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week, as well as the coordination betweenthe two sides in implementing their joint agreements.

Roesler said theforum is willing to share its experience, offer consultancy and help Vietnamconnect with its members.-VNA

Pathways to double-digit growth to be tabled at 16th NA’s first session

In the morning sitting on April 20, deputies are expected to hear proposals and verification reports on a range of draft resolutions. The documents cover breakthrough mechanisms and policies for the development of Vietnamese culture; the establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally run city; a pilot framework for public lawyer institution; and special mechanisms to address land law violations committed prior to the 2024 Land Law taking effect, alongside measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.
