Da Nang (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 10 received leaders of major groups and companies who were attending the APEC CEO Summit 2017 in the central city of Da Nang.

At a reception for Board Chairman of China Southern Power Grid Li Qingkui, PM Phuc praised the group’s determination to put into operation the first turbine of the Vinh Tan 1 thermal power plant in June 2018, six months ahead of schedule. The turbine project was signed at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam in 2016.

PM Phuc welcomed the group’s plan to form a joint venture with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group to invest in more power plant projects under the BOT form.

However, he asked the business to pay attention to handling of dust to protect the environment as part its construction and operation of thermal power plants, adding that it must take measures to minimise impacts of these plants on beach tourism in Binh Dinh and aquatic farms in the Mekong Delta.

PM Phuc suggested the group share Chinese experiences in turning coal ash into construction materials.

During a meeting with Mitsubishi Chairman Omiya Hideaki, PM Phuc hailed the group’s effective investment in a number of hi-tech projects in Vietnam, including an airplane component factory in Hanoi.

He asked the group to expand its investment in hi-tech projects in Vietnam and strengthen their cooperation in training.

The same day, Prime Minister Phuc had a meeting with leaders of foreign and domestic businesses which sponsor the  APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.

He highly valued their contributions to the nation’s important political, economic, and diplomatic event, and joining hands with the Government to make the APEC Year successful.

He emphasized the significance of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, saying that it has gathered leaders and enterprises from the world’s leading economies.

The event offers an opportunity for Vietnam to promote trade liberalisation while helping APEC economies understand more about the people and investment climate of Vietnam.-VNA
