Da Nang (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang had a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in central Da Nang city on November 9 within the framework of the ongoing APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
At the meeting, the President urged the two sides to well organise activities marking the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2018 and soon implement consultation mechanisms such as the high-level defence cooperation committee and the working group on cross-border crime combat.
Vietnam and Malaysia should share experience in anti-terrorism, hostage rescue, rescue operations and pirate combat, he said, asking maritime law enforcement forces of the two countries to exchange experience and information while joining hands in settling emerging issues.
Malaysian PM Najib Tun Razak praised Vietnam’s efforts to organise APEC Year 2017 in general and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in particular.
He pledged to step up economic, trade and investment ties with Vietnam, especially in export-import, oil and gas, tourism and labour.
Malaysia will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese to live in the country and protect their legitimate rights, the PM promised.
Both leaders noted with joy the fruitful developments of the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership in various areas, ranging from politics-diplomacy and national defence-security to economic, trade and investment.
They agreed to increase the exchange of all-level delegations and closely coordinate with each other to organise activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic next year.
The two sides will also urge relevant agencies to soon implement bilateral consultation mechanisms and sign agreements in order to create legal frameworks for cooperation in specific areas.
They also discussed regional and international of shared concern and agreed to intensify consensus within ASEAN and carry forwards the group’s central role in dealing with important matters. -VNA
