Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) choose Vietnam as a model for productivity improvement, starting from specific and key projects, during a reception in Hanoi on April 26 for APO Secretary-General Indra Pradana Singawinata.
The PM also proposed the APO assist Vietnam in fine-tuning mechanisms, human resource training, administrative science, and stepping up international cooperation in the field of productivity.
He hailed the Secretary-General for choosing Vietnam as the first destination after taking office, saying that it is the manifestation of the growing strategic partnership between Vietnam and the APO.
PM Chinh also thanked the APO for assisting Vietnam in building a comprehensive productivity plan based on innovation in 2019, joining expert groups on strategic research activities of the APO and several key projects, and building capacity for training, evaluating and certifying productivity experts.
According to him, the Vietnamese Government has issued a number of programmes and initiatives to improve labour productivity, with the goal of achieving an average labour productivity growth of over 6.5% annually from 2021-2030.
The PM suggested the APO and the Secretary-General facilitate activities to support resources, especially experts to help Vietnam carry out a project on enhancing labour productivity based on science, technology and innovation.
They were also asked to help Vietnam build support projects within the APO’s framework to launch training activities, and support activities related to the international certification of productivity experts according to APO standards. The group was also requested to increase the quantity and quality of national and international productivity experts in Vietnam, and successfully organise the National Productivity Forum in October 2023, which will be hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology.
The host hoped that the APO would keep growing, toward the goal of promoting sustainable socio-economic development in the Asia-Pacific through productivity improvement.
Singawinata, for his part, said Vietnam holds a special position in the APO, adding that the country has a foundation to increase productivity, with hardworking and committed people who are striving to achieve the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045. Furthermore, Vietnam is a leading stable country in terms of politics, economics and society.
Agreeing with PM Chinh’s proposals, he pledged to help Vietnam improve its institutional building capacity, develop plans and monitor the implementation process, and pool the involvement of departments and agencies in labour productivity improvement.
