The figure will help raise theyear’s total to over 6.5 billion USD, an increase of 5 percent againstlast year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters andProducers (VASEP).
In the first nine months of2013, Vietnam shipped its aquatic products to 156 markets throughoutthe world, fetching 4.8 billion USD, or a year-on-year rise of 6.4percent.
Among the aquatic products, shrimpaccounted for 43 percent of the country’s total export value. SinceMarch, the product has enjoyed a two-digit monthly export growth,ranging from 20 percent to 66 percent.
In theJanuary-September period, shrimp export turnover exceeded 2 billion USD,up 27 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the tra fish sector has seen slow recovery, and even somedrops, in recent months. Its exports in the first three quarters reachednearly 1.3 billion USD, down 1.4 percent year-on-year.
The export of tuna and sea fish has also come to a standstill due tothe EU and Japanese markets’ falling demands and higher standards. Tunaexports in the first nine months fetched only 415 million USD, a declineof 4.5 percent over the same period last year.
Cuttle and octopus saw continuous decreases in the Jan-Sept period, earning 309.5 million USD, down 17.2 percent.-VNA
