Armies of Vietnam, China wrap up medical relief exercise in Quang Ninh

Hanoi (VNA) – The armies of Vietnam and China have co-organised a humanitarian and medical relief exercise in Mong Cai border city in Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on December 11, Major General Nguyen Hung Thang, Deputy Chairman and Chief of the Staff of the General Department of Logistics under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, said the exercise took place in line with the schedule and met all set targets.

The event reviewed the collaboration between forces engaging in international disaster relief efforts; and between military medical forces performing international missions and the host nation’s medical capacity, said Thang, who was also head of the exercise steering board.

It reached consensus on procedures in search and rescue operations, first-aid and transportation of the injured to treatment facilities in designated areas, as well as the implementation of measures for the prevention and control of epidemic-prone diseases, and necessary medical equipment.

COVID-19 prevention measures had been in place to ensure safety for the exercise.

For his part, Colonel Chen Chunming, deputy head of the health bureau of the Logistics Support Department under the Central Military Commission of China, highly valued Vietnam’s preparation for and organisation of the event.

The exercise helped improve humanitarian and medical cooperation between the armies of China and Vietnam in an efficient manner, he added.

It offered chances for sustainable and long-term development of cooperation between military medical forces, thereby contributing to relations between the two countries in general and their armies in particular, Chen said./.
