A corner of Bach Long Vy island district (Source: VNA) Hai Phong (VNA) – Two more artesian wells have just been found in Bach Long Vy island district in the port city of Hai Phong by the Northern Division of Water Resources Planning and Investigation.
Two drill holes detected flowing artesian water of 75 cubic metres per day.
A water treatment station has been built to provide water for island citizens.
Bach Long Vy island district, about 100km offshore, is populated by some 1,000 people and more than 2,000 people at peak during storms. The population needs about 210 cubic metres of water per day.
Over the years, they have suffered from continuous water shortages. They mostly rely on the two 80-metre deep concentrated wells, each with a daily capacity of 15 cubic metres.
The now four water wells can supply a combination of 90 cubic metres per day, leaving island residents still 120 cubic metres short of what they need.
In dry season in 2017, island people had to buy water for 50,000 – 100,000 VND per cubic metre. Offshore fishermen even had to buy drinking water at prices double or triple those on the island.
Secretary of the Bach Long Vy district People’s Committee Tran Quang Tuong said, the water reservoirs, with a combined capacity of 48,000 cubic metres, once completed in 2018, will meet the demand of local residents.
The district will collaborate with the Hai Phong Water Supply Company to build a water treatment plant on the island to improve the water quality for district residents, Tuong said.-VNA
