Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has fulfilled most tasks needed to build a common Community later this year, Secretary General Le Luong Minh told the Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview in Malaysia.
As of late October, 97 percent of the work has been completed, including 100 percent of work in the Political-Security pillar, 100 percent in the Socio-Cultural pillar and 93 percent in the Economic pillar.
However, he noted that among the above tasks, many still need to be continued beyond 2015.
He added that ASEAN has also come up with new measures to build on past achievements, with the aim of building a people-oriented Community.
On November 22, ASEAN leaders adopted a declaration on the establishment of the Community, three roadmaps on building the Community and the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision.-VNA
