Seoul (VNA) – The unveiling ceremony of “Jeju Olle Trail 8 Route: ASEAN-Korea Olle” was held by the ASEAN-Korea Centre on Jeju island on November 8 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Republic of Korea (RoK) dialogue relations, and the upgrading of the ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In his opening speech, Kim Jae-shin, the centre’s Secretary-General, emphasised that the "ASEAN-Korea Olle Trail" will become an important venue in the RoK and an opportunity to showcase the East Asian nation’s tourism heritage to ASEAN countries.
The ASEAN-Korea Centre will make efforts to promote plans for enhancing tourism connections between the RoK and ASEAN nations, he added.
Jeju Governor Oh Young Hoon said that the island is pursuing a local diplomatic policy called "ASEAN Plus Alpha" and is the first local government to open an office in Singapore, while expanding its presence to 10 ASEAN countries. He expressed his hope that with the launch of the ASEAN trail, Jeju will become more widely known in ASEAN countries and attract more tourists from this region.
On this occasion, an information corner carrying a wide range of books on ASEAN’s culture and tourism was launched at the Jeju International Peace Centre./.
