Ambassadors to Argentina from ASEAN member states, including Vietnam, have had a working visit to Catamarca province in a bid to step up trade-investment between the bloc and northwestern Argentine provinces.

Buenos Aires (VNA) – Ambassadors to Argentina fromASEAN member states, including Vietnam, have had a working visit to Catamarca province in abid to step up trade-investment between the bloc and northwestern Argentine provinces.

During the trip, the ASEAN diplomats met with Governor of CatamarcaRaul Jalil, Deputy Governor of Santiago province del Estero Silva Neder, OfficeChief of La Rioja province Armando Molina. They also attended a series ofseminars introducing a railway project connecting the Atlantic ports ofArgentina with the Pacific ports of Chile through the San Francisco terminal inCatamarca. The route is expected to reduce shipping time from Argentina toAsia-Pacific countries by 15 days and save 30% on shipping fees.

The northwestern Argentine provinces expressed their desireto expand and strengthen trade exchanges with Asia-Pacific countries, includingthose in ASEAN.

They are promoting the implementation of railway project toachieve such goal

Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Quoc Thanh, the current rotatingchair of the ASEAN Community in Buenos Aires, said the bloc member countriesall have a need to import Argentina’s quality agricultural products with competitiveprices to serve their domestic production. The project connecting the twooceans will definitely help the sides’ exchanges increase sharply in thefuture, he stressed.

ASEAN is willing to exchange technology and experience inmanaging railway lines with the authorities of the Argentine northwesternprovinces, the diplomat affirmed.

Trade between Argentina and ASEAN has continuously increasedin recent years, reaching more than 11 billion USD in 2021./.
