“Aspirations for Peace” marks 50th anniversary of Paris Agreement

An event named “Aspirations for Peace” was held in Hanoi on January 9 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam (Paris Peace Accords) (January 27, 1973).

Hanoi (VNA) – An event named “Aspirations for Peace” was held inHanoi on January 9 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of thesigning of the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam(Paris Peace Accords) (January 27, 1973).

In her opening remarks, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, VicePresident of the Vietnam Women's Union, said that the signing of the agreement is considered a victory of the aspirationfor peace, the will and spirit of Vietnam, and the companionship ofpeace-loving people around the world.

In a country that went through many wars to safeguard itsindependence, every Vietnamese deeply understands the sacred meaning of peace,and the aspiration for peace has become the life purpose of the nation,nurtured and preserved by generations of Vietnamese people, including women,she added.

The event, held by the Vietnamese Women’s Museum and the VietnamDepartment of Peacekeeping Operations, included a talkshow and an exhibition.

At the talkshow, guests shared with the public their storiesduring their struggle and devotion for peace in Vietnam and the world.

K’Ho ethnic minority group in Lam Dong province looks forward to Election Day

Lac Duong commune is a remote locality largely inhabited by the K’Ho ethnic minority in Lam Dong. The commune has 15 villages with more than 14,000 residents in 3,119 households and 8,799 registered voters. Hanoi customs seize suspected gold smuggled by four passengers at Noi Bai airport

The inspection revealed that passenger P.T.H. had concealed 10 pieces of the metal, weighing about 5 kg, inside her bra and underwear. Passenger V.T.M. hid five pieces totalking roughly 1.1 kg beneath underwear. Passenger N.V.L. concealed nine pieces amounting to around 3.5 kg, while passenger C.S.M.H. hid seven pieces weighing some 2.7 kg under underwear and on the wrist.
