Assistance given to natural disaster victims

The Hanoi chapter of the VFF Committee has provided a total of 8 billion VND in refief aid for the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh to overcome consequences of the recent flood.
The Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee has provided a total of 8 billion VND in relief aid for the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh to overcome consequences of the recent flood.

According to Dao Van Binh, chairman of the chapter, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An province will receive 3 billion VND each, while Ha Tinh will get 2 billion VND.

Besides, the Committee has also donated 5 million VND to each family losing its member during the disastrous landslide in La Pan Tan commune, Mu Cang Chai district in the northern mountainous Yen Bai province.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Red Cross offered an aid package worth 420 million VND consisting of household necessities, medicine and 110 million VND in cash to flood victims in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh, while sending a working group to the localities to assess losses and help local people resume their normal lives.

The organisation also helped victims of landslide in La Pan Tan commune with 38 million VND.

According to the National Committee for Search and Rescue, as of 19 pm of September 9, the fatalities from heavy rains and floods in the northern and central localities from Ninh Binh to Ha Tinh provinces climbed to 16 while 38 others were wounded.

Floods also swept out 52 houses and sunk and destroyed 3,500 others mostly in Nghe An and Ha Tinh province. More than 22,000 hectares of food crops and orchards and many roads were also inundated.

Earlier, a serious landslide happened at about 8.30 am on September 7 in Yen Bai province buried 20 people. Until September 9, 15 bodies and 3 wounded victims were found.

The Prime Minister on September 9 sent regards to families losing their members in the landslide.

He asked the local authorities to step up rescue activities, helping victims and their families settling their lives, while finding the cause of the accident.

Due to the disaster, the terraced field festival in Mu Cang Chai, which was scheduled for September 14-20, will be postponed.-VNA
