ATP Challenger Tour opens in Da Nang

Da Nang (VNA) – The Vietnam Tennis Open Da Nang City 2019 kicked off in thecentral city of Da Nang following an opening ceremony held on January 6.

Theprofessional tennis tournament draws the participation of 48 Vietnamese andforeign players, including those in the Association of Tennis Professional(ATP)’s ranking.

Notably, Spain’s Marcel Granollers, who is at the96th place, along with TeymurazGabashvili from Russia, the 369th place, are competing at thetourney.

Meanwhile,Vietnamese No. 1 player Ly Hoang Namand Trinh Linh Giang compete in the men’s singles, while Nam and his teammateLe Quoc Khanh play in the doubles.

Giang and Vietnamese American Daniel Nguyenregister in the doubles event.

The tournament offers total cash prizes of 55,000 USD and 80 points inthe ATP rankings each for winners of single and double titles.

Chairman of the Vietnam Tennis Federation NguyenQuoc Ky said the tournament creates a chance for Vietnamese players to learnfrom their top-ranked international rivals.

It is the first time Da Nang city hashosted a professional tennis tournament in the ATP system, he noted.

After the opening ceremony, Nam, currentlyNo. 434 in ATP’s rankings, faced Germany’s Daniel Atlmaier (No. 370).

Final matches of the singles and doublesare set to take place on January 12. -VNA
