A number of hot issues regarding copyright protection for cinema and television features were debated at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 23.
Experts said copyright has not been ensured in recent times, allowing copies and contraband versions of CDs and films to be produced and sold and media content being intentionally broadcast without consent from the film studios that own the property.
Lawyer Phan Vu Tuan, office manager of the municipal Intellectual Property Association, said the relatively prevalent issue has become a barrier for artists and TV service developers.
Sharing this viewpoint, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Copyright Office Pham Thi Kim Oanh warned the increasingly sophisticated and multiform copyright violations in the field of digital technology.
She said legal regulations on this matter have yet been fully realised and called on copyright holders to be more proactive in self-protection.-VNA
