HCM City (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem hosted a reception for Angela Drake, Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Canberra region, who is leading a delegation from the Australian Political Exchange Council to visit the city.
He highlighted the stronger cooperation between Vietnam and Australia and hoped the countries will host a myriad of activities to celebrate the 45th founding anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
Australia has 167 investment projects in HCM City worth about 200 million USD, he said, adding that two-way trade reached 900 million USD in 2016 and is expected to exceed one billion USD in 2017, he said.
He asked the Australian council to support the development of cooperative relations between Vietnam and Australia as well as between HCM City and Australian localities in the fields of mutual concern.
HCM City will create the best possible conditions for foreign businesses and investors, including those from Australia, to make long-term operation in the city, he affirmed.
Drake said the Australian delegation’s members are aware of their role to strengthen solidarity and reinforce the friendly relations between the two countries for the sake of their peoples.
She hailed the strong will and startup spirit of Vietnamese young people as well as the country’s history and traditional culture.-VNA
