Ba Ria-Vung Tau increases inspections to fight IUU fishing

Competent agencies in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have regularly conducted unexpected inspections to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) – Competent agencies inthe southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have regularly conducted unexpectedinspections to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The municipal Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment said its inspection team has handled 323 fishing boats with total finesof more than 7.4 billion VND (324,000 USD).

It has also assigned the Sub-department of Fisheries tocoordinate with localities to check monitoring devices on operational fishingvessels.

Although violations by fishing boats of Ba Ria-VungTau have reduced, they still occur, the Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment noted.  

Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee, ordered regular inspections and strict settlement of violations,noting that departments, agencies and localities should exchange information and encouragethe public to report cases to competent agencies.

He also asked the Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment to join hands with other departments and agencies to provideconsultancy for the provincial People's Committee in the IUU fishing combat./.

Coast Guard Region 3 intensifies patrols to combat IUU fishing

After ten days of implementing a peak campaign against IUU fishing from October 29 to November 8, patrol and inspection forces of Coast Guard Region 3, in coordination with Border Guard Squadron 18, detected and fined 54 fishing vessels, collecting more than 580 million VND (about 22,000 USD) in fines.

Vietnam Red Cross launches emergency aid for storm-hit provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has decided to allocate over 3.3 billion VND (125,472 USD) in cash and goods to assist Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai provinces, with the funding from its H2025 relief account at Vietcombank and from the “Clean Water for Communities” project, sponsored by Procter & Gamble (P&G) through Americares.

Vietnamese, Chinese border guards coordinate to promote legal awareness among residents
