Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNS/VNA) - The southern province of BaRia-Vung Tau has reported solid growth in the first seven months of the year.

Speaking at a meeting on August 14 to assess thesocio-economic and security situation, Deputy Director of the provincialDepartment of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Dang said industrial growth inthe period was 8.25 percent.

Tax collection rose by 24.4 percent year-on-year to 46.68trillion VND (2.05 billion USD).

The province had attracted 1.91 billion USD worth of foreigndirect investment (FDI) in 32 new projects and 12 others that had increasedtheir capital.

It also granted licences to 29 domestic projects with totalregistered capital of 13.62 trillion VND (600 million USD).  

Officials from departments, agencies and localitiesdiscussed the steps they should take to achieve socio-economic targets set forthe rest of the year.

Accordingly, the province will continue to focus onadministrative reforms, improving the capacity and service quality of itsadministrative apparatus, improving its investment climate and its position inthe provincial competitiveness index (PCI), successfully organising the BaRia-Vung Tau Sea Festival to be held from August 28 to September 5, and othertasks.

The province held another meeting on the same day to discussthe implementation of key projects in Vung Tau, under the chair of Nguyen HongLinh, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’sCouncil.

Hoang Vu Thanh, Vice Chairman of the city People’sCommittee, said many key works like dredging the Ben Dinh Canal, upgrading BaiSau Beach and improving technical infrastructure at the Phuoc Thang Handicraftand Small-scale Industry Park, Chi Linh Area, Bau Trung Cultural Park and NewUrban Area, Bau Sen Park, Go Lang-Long Son Urban Area, and DIC Star TourismComplex have begun.

Delegates suggested that city authorities and the province’srelevant departments and agencies should have closer cooperation in carryingout the projects to clear obstacles and speed up work on key projects.-VNS/VNA

Vietravel Airlines to add new route serving Lunar New Year travel peak

Can Tho–Ca Mau expressway fully opens from January 19
