Bac Giang (VNA) - The northern province of Bac Giang will focus on the investment and development of hospital beds and the expansion of local healthcare facilities, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

From now until 2030, the province aims to increase the number of hospital beds in a modern and standardised manner, aligning with the province’s socioeconomic potential. This expansion will ensure the healthcare system meets the growing needs of both local residents and people from neighbouring localities.

The efforts include enhancing medical expertise, training healthcare personnel, improving infrastructure, and upgrading medical equipment to raise healthcare service quality. The ultimate goal is to make medical services more accessible to the public, ensuring that everyone can benefit from improved healthcare at all levels.

The total estimated investment in infrastructure and medical equipment for the 2025–2030 period is approximately 8 trillion VND (340 million USD). By 2030, the province aims to reach an average of 42.7 hospital beds per 10,000 people, 19 doctors per 10,000 people, 4 pharmacists per 10,000 people, and 33 nurses per 10,000 people.

In the 2025–2030 period, Bac Giang will focus on developing the provincial General Hospital into a regional medical centre with 1,500 beds. Several other key hospitals in the region, such as the Obstetrics and Paediatrics, Traditional Medicine, Rehabilitation, Pulmonary, Mental Health, Oncology, and Endocrinology Hospitals, will also undergo expansion to meet the growing demand for specialised care.

The province plans to invest in new healthcare centres for industrial zones to provide preventive and primary medical services to workers in local factories.

At the same time, the province will continue to expand the capacity of nine district-level health care stations, including those in Tan Yen, Hiep Hoa, Viet Yen, Lạng Giang, Luc Nam, Yen The, Son Dong, Chu Township, and the new Bac Giang City Medical Centre (currently the Yen Dung District Health Centre). A new health centre will be built in Luc Ngan district to provide preventive healthcare and population services once administrative restructuring is complete.

Bac Giang also plans to develop specialised medical centres at existing hospitals, including new departments.

The locality is looking to expand its private healthcare sector, encouraging the growth of non-public hospitals that offer advanced medical technologies. Priority will be given to private hospitals that provide high-quality medical services, including cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment equipment, and will be strategically located in densely populated urban areas and near industrial zones.

The province plans to sign cooperation agreements with several central hospitals and universities, both domestic and international, to advance healthcare services, while continuing to develop satellite hospitals.

In the 2019–2024 period, out of 17 public healthcare establishments in Bac Giang, 13 have undergone significant expansions, including four provincial hospitals and nine district-level healthcare centres. This expansion has added 1,226 hospital beds compared to 2019, increasing the total number of beds to 4,736, helping to raise the hospital bed ratio from 27 beds per 10,000 people in 2020 to 32.5 beds per 10,000 people in 2023, which is above the national average.

By the end of 2023, the province had 17 public healthcare institutions, including eight provincial-level hospitals and nine district-level medical centres.

Their total number of hospital beds is estimated to reach 6,125 by the end of 2024, surpassing the designed capacity by more than 129%. This ongoing issue of hospital overcrowding highlights the growing demand for medical care in the province.

As of the end of 2023, Bac Giang had 14 private hospitals with 1,013 beds, and the number is expected to increase to 16 by the end of 2024, with a total of 1,078 beds./.
