As many as 84 people in the northern province of Bac Giang were honoured at a seminar on November 11 for their efforts in escaping from poverty.
Speaking at the event, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Bac Giang chapter Ngo Sach Thuc affirmed that together with the State’s policies, the province has implemented a number of measures to mobilise social support for the needy.
However, he pointed out limitations in the province’s poverty reduction such as insufficient communication on the “Day for the Poor” campaign, irregular implementation of social security programmes and a high risk of poverty reoccurrence.
Some poor households intend to rely on the State support and don’t want to escape from poverty, he added.
Participants at the seminar suggested the province increase investment in building infrastructure in remote areas in order to facilitate people’s travel and goods exchange.
The State and the locality should have also more mechanisms and policies to support poor people so that they can enjoy a better life, they said.-VNA
