Ben Tre (VNA) – Through the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC), companies have donated over 3.75 billion VND (158,000USD) to build houses and bridges and provide life jackets in support of disadvantaged fishermen in the southern province of Ben Tre.

The VRC on March 8 held a ceremony to hand over the donation in the presence of former State President and former Honorary President of the Vietnam Red Cross Truong Tan Sang.

The money came from the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group that donated 3 billion VND to implement two programmes on building bridges in rural areas and houses for disadvantaged fishermen; and Ngan Tin Group Joint Stock Company and Quy Hai Phat Investment Company Limited that donated 750 million VND to provide life jackets to fishermen.

Currently, about 25,000 households, accounting for about 6.5% of total in Ben Tre province, are poor and near-poor, with 3,500 are facing special difficulties./.
