Binh Dinh (VNA) – More than 70 scientists and researchers from 17 countries around the world discussed infectious diseases as part of the MIDSEA Summer School, Workshop and Symposium in the south-central province of Binh Dinh on June 24.

The event was jointly held by the association Rencontres du Vietnam (Meeting Vietnam), the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) and the MIDSEA Network - a consortium of people working in the area of modelling infectious diseases in Southeast Asia.

It was expected to connect scientists with different experience levels throughout Southeast Asia and the region, and help the scientists gain more knowledge and interest in pursuing research topics.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Jean Tran Thanh Van, founder of Rencontres du Vietnam and Director of the ICISE, said in its development strategy, the centre hopes to coordinate with international scholars in the field of science to organise such events like the MIDSEA Summer School, Workshop and Symposium to contribute to scientific development in Southeast Asia.

Prof. Alexander Richard Cook, Vice Dean at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health under the National University of Singapore (NUS), appreciated the ICISE’s initiative to organise the event which offered an opportunity for young graduates throughout Southeast Asia and beyond to share experiences and learn about their research.

The school wants to continue to coordinate with the ICISE to organise such events in the future, he said.

The MIDSEA Summer School, Workshop and Symposium will conclude on June 29./.
