Binh Duong (VNA) – The Binh Duong provincial chapter of the Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Friendship Association convened the first Congress for the 2016-2021 tenure in the southern province on September 28. 

Vice Deputy Director of the provincial Department of External Affairs Nguyen Thanh Toan was elected as the chapter’s Chairman who will lead a 19-strong executive board. 

As a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam-RoK Friendship Association and the provincial Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the chapter is meant to foster friendship and understanding between Vietnamese and Korean peoples. 

Binh Duong and the RoK’s Daejeon city established friendly ties in 2005. The RoK is currently the third biggest investor in the province with 583 projects worth over 2.3 billion USD. 

The Congress set tasks of raising public awareness of the Korean history, culture and development as well as the bilateral friendship, solidarity and cooperation in the new period during its tenure. 

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dang Minh Hung expressed his belief that the chapter will continue upholding its role, contributing to tightening friendship between Vietnam and the RoK./.

As of May 13, An Giang broke ground on 2,957 homes under this programme, including 2,453 new constructions and 465 renovations. The province has already completed and delivered 2,482 homes to residents. As much as 215.5 billion VND (8.3 million USD) has been mobilised for the efforts.

Vietnamese students win four medals at Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.

Vietnam among countries with high human development: UNDP report

According to the report, which evaluates human development progress based on the Human Development Index (HDI), tracking achievements in health, education and income, Vietnam’s HDI in 2023 reached 0.766, ranking 93rd out of 193 countries and territories. This marked a substantial leap from 0.499 in 1990, representing a 53.5% increase, a notable trajectory of growth over more than three decades.
