Hanoi (VNA) – The southern province of Binh Duong on August 1 recorded 2,179 new cases of COVID-19, 716 of whom were detected in the community. Thuan An city is the epicenter of the pandemic with 1,254 cases.

According to the provincial Department of Health, the health sector is currently mobilising hundreds of medical teams to carry out rapid testing on a large scale in many districts and townships. 

It is forecast that the number of COVID-19 cases in Binh Duong may exceed 20,000 in the next few weeks.

Also on August 1, the provincial People's Committee issued an express on continuing to enforce lockdown measures across the province for two more weeks since August 2.

The local administrations were asked not to let residents leave their places of residence for another locality after August 1 until the end of lockdown.

They were also been told to organise vaccinations quickly, to the right people in a safe and effective manner as well as ensure food for poor workers and lost their income due to the pandemic.

The province has also mobilised a contingent of health workers, both in the public and private sectors, to take part in pandemic prevention and control in the locality.

As many as 17,354 COVID-19 cases have so far been recorded in Binh Duong province since the fourth wave of COVID-19 infections which began in late April./.
