State President Truong Tan Sang urged the southern province of Binh Duong to channel its efforts into improving the quality of development.

Speaking at the 10th Congress of the provincial Party Organisation that kicked off on October 26, the President lauded efforts made by the Party Organisation and people of Binh Duong in the past years, making important and fairly comprehensive achievements.

Binh Duong has seen high growth rate in all fields, becoming a leading province in the country just 19 years since it was re-established, the President said.

In the past five years, Binh Duong’s yearly economic growth rate averaged 13 percent and GDP per capital reached 3,200 USD.

According to the President, however, Binh Duong’s results from the past five years have been below its potential, economic growth has been quick but not sustainable, growth quality is low and total-factor productivity and competitiveness is still limited.

Figures showed the growth rate of the service sector in the gross domestic product (GDP) is limited and there is insufficient regional links and development while the quality of human resources is not meeting the demand for economic development, especially in the face of international integration.

The President emphasised that Binh Duong’s development plans must be closely connected with the region’s overall development, creating links in developing infrastructure, environmental protection and the training of human resources and science and technology.

The State leader also called on Binh Duong to focus on implementing strategic breakthroughs effectively and restructuring the economy to shift the growth model towards improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competiveness.

The province was asked to improve the investment environment, be more selective with projects, develop services and improve the rate of the service sector in the provincial GDP, especially high-quality services with advantages and high added values.

The President also advised the province to make innovations in the agriculture sector by using advanced technologies to improve productivity and efficiency in production.

He also noted the province needs to develop culture, society, social advances and equality; improve local living standards; and protect natural resources and the environment in line with the development of the economy.

The President requested Binh Duong focus on Party-building, human resources training and implementation of social policies.-VNA
