Binh Thuan sentences 10 men to prison for social disturbance

Binh Thuan (VNA) – The People’s Court of Tuy Phong district, BinhThuan province, on July 23sentenced 10 men to prison for disturbing publicorder in Hoa Minh commune, Tuy Phong district, on June 10.

They include Pham Sang (born in 1992), Ngo Duc Duyen (1988),Nguyen Chuong (1995), Do Van Ngoc (1996), Nguyen Minh Kha (2000), Nguyen VanMeo (1975), Phan Thanh Nam (1990), Ngo Van Dat (1989), Nguyen Ngoc Sang (1996),and Le Van Liem (1995).

According to the indictment, at 8am on June 10, many locals gatheredon National Highway 1A and Nam bridge in Hoa Minh commune. The defendantsincited others to throw bricks, stones, and tree branches at police officers, resultingin one officer sustaining some injuries.

The defendants damaged two motorcycles and two automobiles,and also blocked vehicles running through the highway, thus causing serioustraffic jams.

The jury sentenced both Ngoc and Pham Sang to 3 and a halfyears in prison each, while Chuong and Dat each received a 3-year jail term.Duyen, Nam, Liem, and Ngoc Sang were given a 2-and-a-half-year sentences, whileKha and Meo were both given 2 years each. –VNA

Hanoi court cuts sentences in ‘rescue flight’ bribery case

Among those receiving reduced sentences were Tran Tung, former Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen provincial Department of Foreign Affairs, whose prison term was cut to 10 years from 12, with six years for accepting bribes and four for abusing power while performing official duties.
