The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has aided over 1,140 households engaging in poultry breeding to build biogas spherical tanks to produce green energy for their daily use.

The biogas is produced from the decomposition process of animal and plant waste in the absence of oxygen.

The composite tanks are not only economically efficient but also environmentally friendly.

Carried out by the provincial agriculture encouragement centre since 2009, the biogas development project has helped reduce deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.

With more than 14,000 buffalos, 350,000 cows and 430,000 pigs along with tens of millions of fowls, the province promotes the application of this model, especially in ethnic minority inhabited areas.-VNA
