Bribery case at foreign ministry's consular department prosecuted

The Investigation Security Agency under the Ministry of Public Security has prosecuted a case of taking bribes at the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while licensing the firms that conducted repatriation flights for Vietnamese people.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Investigation SecurityAgency under the Ministry of Public Security has prosecuted a case of taking bribes at the Consular Department at the Ministry of ForeignAffairs while licensing the firms that conducted repatriation flights for Vietnamesepeople.

Lieut. Gen To An Xo, Chief of Office and Spokesperson ofthe Ministry of Public Security, said on January 28 that the agency has issued decisionsto start legal proceedings against and arrest four for “taking bribes” in linewith Article 354 of the Penal Code.

The four are Nguyen Thi Huong Lan, born in 1974, headof the Consular Department; Do Hoang Tung, born in 1980, deputy head of thedepartment; Le Tuan Anh, born in 1982, chief of the department’s office; and LuuTuan Dung, born in 1987, deputy head of the citizen protection desk at thedepartment.

Decisions on the search of their workplace andresidence have also made, Xo said, adding that such decisions wererealised following the approval of the Supreme People’s Procuracy./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
