Brunei wishes to boost multi-faced cooperative relations with Vietnam and support the country as the ASEAN Chair in 2010, Brunei ’s King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has said.
King Bolkiah, who is on a visit to Vietnam to attend the 16th ASEAN Summit, expressed this while meeting with Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee on April 8.
He stressed Brunei ’s policies and aspirations to cooperate with Vietnam in numerous areas, especially in investment, services, oil and gas, education and labour export.
The King congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding achievements during its renewal process and international integration.
For his part, General Secretary Manh spoke highly of King Bolkiah’s contributions to enhancing two-way relations over the past years, saying that the two countries need to exert more joint efforts to step up cooperation in economics, culture-sports and people-to-people exchanges to match with the two countries’ potentials.
He thanked Brunei’s government for its timely and valuable support for Vietnam to help the country overcome the destruction of tropical storm Ketsana last year and expressed his wish, that Brunei would further cooperation with Vietnam during the latter’s tenure as ASEAN Chair, thus contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region./.
