The authorities of central Thua Thien-Hue on May 9 held a memorial and burial ceremony for the remains of 30 Vietnamese volunteer soldier and specialists who sacrificed their lives in Lao battlefields during the war.

The ceremony saw the participation of representatives of the Government’s Special Task Board, the High Command of Military Zone 4, and the two Lao provinces of Salanan and Sekong.

The remains were found during a six-month search conducted by Team 192 of the Thua Thien-Hue Military Command during the 2012-2013 dry season.

According to Colonel Tran Dinh Phong, head of the Command, the team has brought home the remains of nearly 700 martyrs from the two Lao provinces.

By 2012, it was estimated that the remains of over 1,000 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts were still scattered across Laos.-VNA
