A workshop was held in southern coastal Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to discuss the role that business community plays in combating corruption in Vietnam.
The event, held by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the World Bank (WB), highlighted that business community, a key link in corruption chain, can help root out corruption by its consensus and determination.
The WB suggested that Vietnam should improve transparency while continuing to step up the administrative reforms and eliminate interest conflicts in the dealing with corruption cases, thus creating a culture of denouncing corruption.
Besides, it is necessary to increase trust in the press while enhancing the active engagement of businesses and the society in the anti-corruption fight, it said.
James Anderson, WB’s Senior Governance Specialist, stressed that Vietna m should focus more on leaders’ accounting responsibility and the building of an accountability system.
He noted that Vietnam is now facing serious risks and challenges posed by corruption. This can only be solved with strong will and drastic measures of the whole political system, he added.-VNA
