Ca Mau reviews 10 years of building new-style rural areas

The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has managed to convert 30 out of 82 communes into new-style rural areas, an increase of 36.6 percent compared to 2010, heard a conference on October 8 to review 10 years of implementing the new-style rural area building programme in the locality.

Ca Mau (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of CaMau has managed to convert 30 out of 82 communes into new-style rural areas, anincrease of 36.6 percent compared to 2010, heard a conference on October 8 to review10 years of implementing the new-style rural area building programme in thelocality.

On average, communes across the province completed13.65 ofall 19 criteria for the programme, four times higher than in 2010.

As of 2018, per capita income in the province had reached 42million VND (1,800 USD), doubling the figure in 2010, withthat of rural peoplehitting 29 million VND, higher than the average in the Mekong Delta region andthe country.

Meanwhile, the ratio of poor households in the province fellto 4.04 percent.

By 2020, the province is striving to have one districtrecognised as a new-style rural area, along with three districts completing atleast six criteria, half of the communes finishing all the criteria, and atleast five communes becoming advanced new-style rural areas.

It expects each commune to fulfill 16.5 of the criteria onaverage, and per capita income at least 1.6 times higher compared to 2015.

Total investment in the programme by the province is targetedto reach over 1.27 billion VND(54,600 USD) in 2020.

Addressing the event, Deputy Secretary of the provincialParty Committee Pham Bach Dang lauded the efforts of localities across theprovince in implementing the programme in the 2010-2020 period.

However, he pointed out that the progress of the programmehas been slower than the national and regional average. Meanwhile, the ruralenvironment in many places is still polluted.

Dang asked for more efforts to complete the targets andtasks for the programme towards 2020 and 2025.

At the conference, delegates focused on seeking measures tomobilise resources for the programme and support the growth of agriculture andrural development.

On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee presentedcertificates of merit to 27 individuals and 10 collectives for their outstandingperformance in building new-style rural areas./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
