Cambodia: 220 international observers to monitor election

As many as 220 observers from 52 countries will monitor general election in Cambodia on July 29, heard a media briefing in Phnom Penh on July 24.

– As many as 220observers from 52 countries will monitor general election in Cambodia on July29, heard a media briefing in Phnom Penh on July 24.

According to the National Election Committee,most of the observers are from China, Indonesia, and several internationalorganizations.

Other countries sending representatives toobserve the election include Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam, Pakistan, TimorLeste, the Philippines, Brunei and Thailand.

More than 80,000 observers from 20 politicalparties and 1,036 others from domestic associations and organizations across 25cities and provinces nationwide are also expected to monitor the election.

The 2013 election saw a total of 266international observers from 37 international organisations and foreign embassies,including those from the US, Australia and Sweden.-VNA

Thailand tightens inspections to curb illegal migrant labour

Thailand’s Deputy Government Spokesperson Aiyarin Phanrit said relevant authorities have also been instructed to conduct strict on-site inspections of migrant workers and their workplaces in order to prevent the use of illegal labour. She added that if illegal work is found, legal action will be taken decisively.
