Phnom Penh (VNA) – The judge of a Phnom Penh court decided to remand President of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha in custody for legal procedures with the charge of “colluding with foreigners” under Article 443 of the country's Criminal Code.
The decision was made following the judge’s interrogation with Kem Sokha, Cambodia’s Fresh News quoted the court's spokesman Ly Sophana as saying.
Previously on September 3, Kem Sokha was arrested after Cambodia’s police found a video broadcast by Australia-based Cambodian Broadcasting Network and other evidence showing Kem Sokha and his accomplices secretly conspired with foreigners to overthrow the Cambodian government.
The Cambodian Government described the above act as treason and espionage.
Kem Sokha was elected as CNRP President in March 2017 to replace Sam Rainsy, who stepped down in the previous month.-VNA
