Phnom Penh (VNA) – The fifth-tenure Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee opened its 41st session in Phnom Penh on December 18.
The three-day event is chaired by CPP President and Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen and CPP Honorary President and National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin.
It gathers 3,164 CPP members, including 829 of the 865 members of the Central Committee and leaders of ministries, sectors and localities from across the country.
The ruling party’s spokesman Chhim Phalvorun said the session aims to review the political work’s outcomes and set up orientations and targets for the coming time. It will also instruct the implementation of a plan on the election of members to the councils of the capital city, provinces, cities and districts in 2019.
Additionally, they will discuss the advantages, shortcomings and challenges within the CPP, and how to make improvement to bring into play the role of the ruling party.
At the meeting, CPP Honorary President and National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin affirmed the party’s historic role over the 40 years it has led the country in all fields, including reconstructing the nation, developing the economy, ensuring political security and social order and safety, and safeguarding the national integrity.
He also stressed that what have been achieved nowadays come from the trust, joint efforts, and support of people and international friends.
The session also called on all CPP members and supporters to uphold unity, protect the regime of the Kingdom and the Royal Government of Cambodia, and improve democratic institutions and citizens’ freedoms and law adherence. -VNA
