Cambodia: CPP, CNRP leaders meet over 2017 commune elections

Leaders of the ruling Cambodian CPP and the CNRP met in Phnom Penh on September 23 to discuss issues regarding the amendment of the election law ahead of the 2017 commune elections.

Leaders of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) met in Phnom Penh on September 23 to discuss issues regarding the amendment of the election law in preparation for the commune elections in 2017.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and CPP Vice President Sar Kheng and CNRP President Sam Rainsy debated differences relating to the election law.

According to spokesmen of the CPP and CNRP, two sides agreed to meet next week to discuss issues such as parade duration, promotion at public places and election campaign duration.

Earlier, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is also CPP President, CNRP President Sam Rainsy vowed to continue cooperation of the two parties through dialogue culture.-VNA
