Cambodia deports more than 100 suspected Chinese fraudsters

Cambodia on August 24 deported 122 Chinese people suspected of operating a telecoms network to extort money from victims in China, a senior police official said.
Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia on August 24 deported 122 Chinese people suspected of operating a telecoms network to extort money from victims in China, a senior police official said.

Lieutenant General Ouk Hai Seila, chief of the investigation department at the General Department of Immigration, said China sent two planes to pick up the suspects.

They will be sent to Sichuan province, southwest of China, via Siem Reap international airport, he added.

The suspects were detained by Cambodian authorities on August 2 in two places in northwest Banteay Meanchey province after a tip-off from Chinese authorities.

They used Voice over Internet Protocol, a type of internet phone service, from Cambodia to extort money from victims in China.

A large number of telephones and laptops, and a list of Chinese victims was confiscated during the raids.

Since 2011, Cambodia has deported 1,050 Chinese people accused of involvement in telecoms scam.-VNA
