Phnom Penh (VNA) – Senate President andacting head of state Samdech Say Chhum has signed a Penal Code amendment thatpunishes anyone for insulting the King.

The amendment, which was signed on March 3, statesthat insulting the King shall be punished with imprisonment from one to fiveyears and a fine from 500 USD to 2,500 USD.

The law was approved by the government onFebruary 2, by the National Assembly on February 14, and by the Senate onFebruary 27 before submitting to the King for ratification.-VNA
